A few helpful tips would be things such as always warm up before starting a singing session. Just as with any other talent, you have to work and practice to develop your singing. You should be singing every day. But not before you have warmed up. Just as you warm up before exercising your muscles, you should warm up before exercising your vocal chords, too. This will prevent you from straining it.

Also practice breathing exercises. Developing breath control is essential to singing with a strong voice. Also practice proper enunciation. If people cannot understand the words you are singing, then there would be no real reason to do so. Keep in mind that good body posture will help you to practice the proper breath control. It is also good to start slow and work your way up, as with any other new thing. Take about twenty minutes a day for your singing practice, and work your way up slowly.

Take good care of your voice. Drink lots of water and live a healthy, active lifestyle. Avoid yelling, and absolutely avoid smoking. There are also other things that are bad for your voice such as sugary drinks and alcohol. Drink these in moderation at all times.
